Installation Notes
Due to the complexity and electronic nature of the ZF TraXon AMT, the replacement of internal components like the 2nd gear must be performed exclusively by ZF-certified technicians using specialized tools and diagnostic equipment.
1.Specialized Environment: The transmission must be removed from the vehicle and disassembled in a clean, dust-free environment. Handling of the electronic components (TCU, actuators) requires strict anti-static precautions.
2.Disassembly and Pressing: Accessing the main shaft requires full transmission disassembly. The gear must be installed onto the shaft using a hydraulic press and specialized pullers, often requiring the gear to be heated for a precise shrink-fit installation.
3.Mating Components: Always inspect the mating countershaft gear and the synchronizer components (if applicable) for wear. Replacing a single gear in a worn set will lead to rapid failure of the new part.
4.Lubrication: Use only the specific ZF-approved lubricant (e.g., ZF-Ecofluid M). Incorrect oil can damage the pneumatic actuators and synchronizers, leading to costly faults.
5.Critical Calibration: After reassembly, the transmission’s electronic control unit (TCU) MUST be recalibrated using the ZF diagnostic software (Testman). This calibration is essential for the AMT to accurately measure shaft speeds and execute perfect shifts. The transmission will not function correctly without this step.
